This past Tuesday I assisted four other teachers and six adult volunteers on a field trip. We chaperoned 96 sixth and seventh-grade students to the Ohio Historical Society (OHS). The purpose of the field trip was to help students participating in National History Day make connections to their local history. The students were allowed to handle various primary-source documents pertaining to desegregation, women’s rights, worker’s rights and environmental issues related to Ohio. They were even allowed to search old newspapers on the microfilm machines!
The professional and knowledgeable OHS staff and volunteers made the field trip a very pleasurable experience. Every time I go there, I learn so much! The exhibits are educational, informative and fun and the library is amazing!! Ohioans are fortunate to have such a great resource. Truly, this is a museum everyone should visit on a regular basis.
