Jay Asher, author of the fantastic book Thirteen Reasons Why, will be at Cover to Cover Book Store on Wednesday, November 12th as part of his "50 States Against Bullying" Campaign. This book is rated MG+ on arbookfind.com. Amazon's recommended age is 12+ and recommended grade is 7+.
I'm excited for the four-week Maker Workshop starting tomorrow! Check out the Makerspace page of the library website for all the details! And a BIG thank you to Jack Brown for all of his help! Our library catalog has 77 eBook and audiobooks for students to download to their devices. Check out the Home page for details on how to get started. Walnut Springs’ National Junior Honor Society had their first, and amazingly successful, community service project last week. Students, staff and parents were invited to bring in gently used books in exchange for a raffle ticket to be used for a chance to win one of six great gift baskets. Five of the six baskets were book-themed and one was full of candy! By the end of conferences on Thursday, 457 books were collected! These books will now be AR-leveled by NJHS members and be given to Kiwanis Club of Westerville which in turn will be distributed to area schools in the district during Kiwanis’ highly-acclaimed Book Bonanza program! Please Help! I need STUFF!! I'm gearing up for a little workshop in the makerspace and need to harvest some electronics. If you have any of the following items needing a new home, please consider donating them to the library!
1. Printers - for motors, switches, leds, and mechanical linkages 2. Wall adapters for low voltage (5-12 volt) power source. 3. Internet/cable routers (LEDs and power supplies) 4. Land line phones for speakers 5. Old desktop computers (for the cooling FANS and wire) Thank you to everyone who donated to the Franken Toys Maker Monday. The students had a great time transforming "normal" toys into something scary and creepy! Photos can be viewed on the Makerspace page!
The Westerville Education Foundation has a new feature for teachers to use to post classroom projects that need funding. I posted one for Walnut Springs' new WOLF TV crew and one for our new makerspace. If you're looking for a way to contribute to the school, please check out one of my projects.
